Women owned and founded The Still Life is a multi-disciplinary design studio located in Vancouver BC.
Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest I started creating at a very young age. My mother taught me to sew at the age of 6 by repairing small tears in my clothes with a needle and thread. My grandmother taught me how to embroider as a way to repair curtains and tablecloths every summer.
By 18 I had made my own prom dress from a vintage silk comforter and fell head over heels for making just about anything with my hands. My journey to creating The Still Life was sparked when I found a beautiful vintage floral bedsheet at a second hand shop 2 years ago. The prints of the flowers made me think of old photos I'd seen of my family in the 60s & 70s. Bold, playful and so colourful.
I re-engaged with my roots in sewing and began to design my own dresses. This spark of inspiration quickly became a bigger vision to contribute to the conversation of redefining how we perceive the value of our clothing by bringing new life to up-cycled vintage and antique fabrics. I believe in slow fashion that honours individuality and nostalgia. In addition to my larger mission my hope is to create pieces that invoke joy and become everlasting keepsakes for those that find them.
